THE people of Igbide, Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State,
have told the management of Nigerian Petroleum Development Company,
NPDC, to take urgent steps to clean up the areas affected by last week’s
oil spillage in the community.
They also demanded compensation for farmlands, crops and fish ponds
destroyed by the oil spillage
which they alleged was caused by equipment
failure.
Addressing newsmen on the development, Chairman of the Ekpo quarter
of the community, Chief Alex Akata said: “From the equipment failure
the spill went to their drain and the drain collapsed so from there the
crude oil spread to the farmlands, bush, fish ponds and houses.”
