For the first time, Android smartphone users can create playlists and
tune in to Beats 1, the digital radio station manned by former Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe.
"Apple Music for Android will have the same features as iOS, including
all the great playlists, recommendations and content," said Oliver
Schusser, vice president of iTunes International.
He added that artist platform Connect and playlist tab My Music will
work in the same manner as the iOS version, and users will be able to
flag any bugs they find within the beta through an embedded link. Music
videos within Connect and opening a family plan within the app are areas
which will not be initially available at launch, he admitted.
Users will also be able to save playlists for offline listening, and the user interface has been overhauled to incorporate Android features, including sidebars.
Apple Music works on a £9.99 per month subscription basis, following a three-month free trial. It was unveiled at the company's annual Worldwide Developers Conference back in June, and now has around 15m total users - 6.5m of whom are paying for its services. Arch rival Spotify has 75m total users, 20m of whom are subscribers.
Mr Schusser confirmed that the Family Plan, which allows up to six people access to the service for £14.99 per month, will support both Android and iOS devices under the same plan.
