Ex-NYPD Officer Pleads Guilty In Killing Of Wife

A former NYPD officer has pleaded guilty to gunning down his wife in front of the couple's two young children because he thought she was having an affair.

The Daily News reports that 44-year-old Kevin Canty pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Tuesday in the death of his 40-year-old wife, Jessica.

Canty admitted he shot his wife seven times as their 6- and 9-year-old children watched inside their Queens home on April 19, 2014.

Jessica Canty's sister, Lisa Caccavale, says she is thankful for the guilty plea because it means the children won't have to testify at a trial.

Canty retired from the police department in 2013.

The couple had been together since they were teenagers and have a 20-year-old daughter, as well as the two children who witnessed the shooting.
