AN attention-seeking mum put her own blood into her child’s urine so doctors would think the girl was critically ill.
The six-year-old underwent a biopsy, during which a large needle was inserted in her kidney.
Staff at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital overheard the mum, 31, tell her: “Act in pain.”
The girl’s results were clear. An uncontaminated urine sample was then tested and the mum of four was arrested.
The former pub manager of Stevenage, Herts, could now face up to ten years in jail.
On
Monday, she admitted wilfully assaulting, ill-treating and neglecting a
child in a manner likely to cause suffering or injury.
Judge David Farrell adjourned the case at Cambridge crown court for psychiatric reports.
Prosecutors told The Sun they believe she wanted “the attention of medical professionals”.
It
is understood the girl earlier spent a week at Lister Hospital,
Stevenage, amid claims of a high temperature and bloody urine.
Two days after that, the mum took her to A&E, saying she was vomiting, had lower back pain and more blood in her urine.
The pair later went to Ormond Street kidney specialist Dr Kjell Tullus, with a faked urine sample.
Outside court, the mum told reporters: “You can’t print anything. I’m saying nothing.”
Her children are thought to be living with their maternal gran.
