In the United Kingdom, Nov. 5 is also Bonfire Night, commemorating the
execution of Guy Fawkes, a 17th-century Roman Catholic terrorist who was
executed after attempting to assassinate the king and blow up the House
of Lords.
The protesters began in Trafalgar Square and at one point surrounded the
star-studded premiere of "Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2," where
members of the cast posed on the red carpet.
Thousands gravitated to the night’s rally with unique reasons for
attending. Simon Harlock was rallying against government infringements
on freedom of speech and information. “[Edward Snowden and Julian
Assange] are my heroes,” he said.
Vicky said she and her friend Paul were marching against England’s “elite, conservative” government.
